my mother and i

...love to hang out and do girly things. we always have but ever since i had my boys sneaking in time to do said girly things has been difficult. we used to try and take them with us but that quickly came to a stop. we spent more time refocusing and redirecting them then we did enjoying our girly moments. let me just tell you how much boys do not like eating lunch at our local tea room or hanging out in junk (thrift & antique) stores.

when i was 15 she awoke my love for musical theater. one friday afternoon she picked me up early from school drove us to the airport we boarded a 13 seater plane and flew to san francisco. we  checked into our hotel which was the most amazing little boutique hotel i also have a secret love affair with boutique hotels. (the roosevelt in hollywood is a favorite) i felt like we were living in a different time until i looked down and remembered what is was wearing...my grungie ripped up jeans, my doc martins, my flowing boho shirt and my hair in a french braid. in case you didn't know i was THAT girl.

the next evening we go dressed up and she took me to see the phantom of the opera at the orpheum.
it was brilliant.
i am getting teary eyed right now as i'm typing this. opera is moving even when sung in a foreign language. you can feel what is going on through the emotion in the voices.

any way point is...
on saturday mom and i went to los angeles to see wicked at the pantages theater.

all dressed up and ready to go.
sorry about the quality i took this pic on my phone. i love it! i just wish it was clear.

we ate dinner at wood & vine.

sat outside around the fire place. it was fabulous.

pantages...

waiting for the show to start...
the ushers were all business. two seconds after i took this pic i got reprimanded.
"there is no photography ma'am"
how did he know? my flash was off and i took it from my lap. so much for being sly.

this was my favorite scene. i just happened to find this clip with the lady we actually saw.
this clip i know is poor quality.
she was amazing in person.

wicked was wicked
if you have a chance go see it.

thanks mom for a fantastic mother / daughter.
lets do it again soon!

heart.garland

last week i went back to work for a few days to do kindergarten testing for children entering kindergarten for the 2012-2013 school year.

i loved it. i loved teaching preschool before i "retired" but i was reminded everyday at 2:00 pm why i "retired" in the first place.
my day really is only getting started when
i make my rounds to gather my boys from school.

we have practice for what ever is the sport of the season
church some nights
youth group another night
homework
chores
dinner needs to be made
and the
list.goes.on.

my hat goes off to all of you mom's that can keep up with the home and a full time job.
i just get stressed.

i was stressed come friday night.
so when i woke up saturday morning i knew it was time to de-stress.
and what is a better way to de-stress then spend the morning crafting?
so that's exactly what i did.
here's what i made...

heart.garland:

supplies:
2 sets of string lights *target dollar section for $2.50 each
scissors
fabric *i used red and white costume satin. 1 yard red and 1/2 yard white. and 1 1/2 yards red tulle

1) cut your fabric in to 1 1/2 inch wide x 12 inches long strips
*this was the fun part ha! actually it was slightly therapeutic ;)

2) tie your fabric on to the cord loosely *you want to be able to straighten it once your all done.

3) continue tying on your fabric in any order that strikes your fancy.
i had about 6 inches between hearts. so this is the order i went in:
   1 red satin 2 tulles, 1 white, 2 tulles and 1 red.

4) admire your beautiful work

5.) hang it up & admire it some more

it glows beautifully when the lights are low.

it's a little frilly and girly but that's precisely why i {heart} it!

every front door needs a wreath.

when i was a little girl my mom would make a new wreath for every holiday and season. she would always let me help. i didn't appreciate when i was young and eventually stopped helping her. silly i know. she has a fantastic eye and is extremely creative.

now that i have a home of my own i love making pretty little things to make my house feel like a home. i know i learned that from my momma.

now that fall fas finally arrived, it was time to change my wreath. every front door needs a wreath right?!

what d' ya think?

strawberry shortcake

yesterday after church we came straight home which is a rarity. we normally go visit family.
our afternoon was filled with movies, naps & xbox. -_- (not a fan of xbox)

at church yesterday we were having a fundraiser luncheon and all proceeds will go to buy backpacks for our local homeless shelter. my job was to bring the drinks. so on my way to church i stopped at smart and final. as i was checking out i saw that they had strawberries on sale. instantly my mouth started watering, i need strawberry shortcake.

i have no idea why i started thinking about strawberry shortcake, but i couldn't stop. when i got home i made some. wouldn't you know i had everthing i needed. i love when that happens.

Photobucket

i have decided that once i get a new camera i am going to take a photography class. my photog skill are lees than mediocre. ha.ha. my pic may not be beautiful but my shortcake sure did taste good.

happy monday!
