Bedroom Redo

i know, i know.
we just moved into our house 18 months ago
why on earth would we already redo a room that was just redone?

one word.

FLOOD

it was like the perfect storm.
we have a water heater on the outside of our bedroom wall.
the wall that our bed lives on.
the water heater started leaking an estimated six months ago,
 and we had no idea.
the water leaked out and seeped under our bed.
{lesson: always check under your bed for leaks}

a month ago i started smelling this rancid smell when i walked into our bedroom.
i'm a blamer, i'm not going to lie.
and boy golly did i blame everything.
my husband most of all…
i'm not proud.

two weeks ago today, i was so fed up with the smell, so i got on my hands and knees and crawled around sniffing the carpet. like a dog. i hope this visual made you laugh.
and i caught the smell and followed it as it got stronger and stronger.
i reached under my bed and brought my hand out wet.

*#%@%$*

needless to say we now have a huge whole in our house,
a plastic tent taking up most of our room,
fans,
air scrubbers, did you know air could be scrubbed?
air hygienist coming in and out to test our air,
wet studs,
15 feet of molded siding,
a heater closet needing to be demoed and rebuilt
etc, etc…

we put the boys together in one room and claimed my youngest bedroom as our own.

fans have been blowing in this room for 13 days and the studs still aren't dry.
with any luck our home will be back to normal by christmas.

on the bright side, i'm glad we have a home that this fiasco could happen in, you know.

in the mean time, i'm dreaming of what to do with my room.

this make me weak in the knees.

i love dark woods and white makes me all heart eyed!

wannabe antlers

as you all know we moved into a new to us home at the end of may. i have been working 'round the clock to make this house our home. i don't know about you but every time we move (and we've moved a lot in our fifteen years of marriage, TWELVE TIMES) i always get the living spaces that people see in order first. ALWAYS always leaving my bedroom for last.

the other day i was browsing my "FOR BED" pinterest board and came across the below pin. i pinned it 23 weeks ago. ( I'm a habitual pinner. i'm working on it) and i fell in love with it all over again.
i love the simplicity of this room. in my opinion, bedrooms should be calm. a safe haven if you will. a place that you could stay in forever. ok I'm sure you get the point. the wreath above the bed is my favorite part. its made of antlers. i want it in a bad way. but lets be real, real antlers are expensive and hunting deer is not something we come by easily where i live. SO i wracked my little brain and it came to me "buy a grapevine wreath and spray paint it white" so thats exactly what i did.

i used a 40% off coupon from the news paper at michaels and got this bad boy

i went back the next day and used another 40% coupon from my michaels.com and bought the spray paint. in my haste i forgot to take a picture of that. worlds worst diy-er ever.
i used design master colortool spray in flat white.

i still have a long way to go before our room is complete, but i love how the wreath turned out. it has the same organic feel as the antlers. now, i sort of wish i'd gone a little bit bigger.

do you use coupons?

also i've been wanting to change my blog name. is that blog suicide?

a family heirloom

you guys i am so excited to write this post...

as you all know we just moved to a "new to us" home. some of the criteria from said home was that it have both a formal living / dining room and a family. that way the "men" (hubz and my boys) and the "lady" (me) could each have a room to do with what they wished. i will let you in on a little secret though, i have full control of the "man" room. ha!

my plan for the "lady" room was always a fusion of this and this.

about a month ago, i got an email from my dad explaining that his cousin has this old victorian settee that is a family heirloom and that it has been in the family since the late 1800's if none of his siblings are interested in it would you i?

Um hello!
of course i would be.

here's vicci in all of her glory. isn't she beautiful.

here's her history below. martha would be my great great great aunt.
the best part of the whole thing is how excited my husband is to get to work on her. we are definitely doing this.

in the email from my dads cousin, she recalled the first time that she saw the piece in my great grandmothers attic it had black upholstery. so really i am just returning vicci to her glory days. i cant wait to show you all the final product.

if this settee was your what would you do? i always love other people ideas and perspective.

xxO

kitchen. nook.

since we wont be moving anytime soon (end o'may come quickly)
i decided that i'd continue to dream about what i want to do with my new space.
dreaming makes me giddy.

today's installment:
kitchen and nook

this is what i would like to see happen in my space

here's the actual space

pardon my hubz and real estate agent in the photos.
i told them they were messing up my pictures. of course they didn't care. MEN.

the first thing i want to point out is how much i love the antique windows in the wall cut out.
they're the real reason i wanted this house.
you think i'm kidding...

second. i love how open each rooms is to the next.
right now we have a galley kitchen separate from the rest of the house.
the joy i used to find from cooking has completely diminished. i feel like i'm stuck in a dungeon.
i'm seriously hoping to find that joy again once we move.

third. stained cupboards...
i don't really like them. i feel like kitchens should be bright and airy.
the kitchen is the heart of the home after all.
so sometime in the near future they will be getting a white makeover. the granite will stay.
i want to paint the island a contrasting color like this. but i'm not sure what that color will be yet.
most of my kitchen accessories are red.

fourth. the breakfast nook.
after looking at  ^this kitchen^  i'm a little freaked out about how there's
corner settee and round table that's almost identical to the one currently in my space.
this is another item that the homeowners might leave for us. their taste has changed.
if they do leave it, i will be changing the fabric.
i wonder if jen's kitchen was her inspiration of sorts too?! she does have great taste.

fifth. i love all the windows.
i love even more that when you look out of them their is an actual view of the front yard...
watching the boys skateboard, play basket ball, football etc...
while i'm prepping dinner is going to be a dream come true. seriously.

sixth. my husband want's to remove the beam that's running above the bar.
i agree. i don't like when views are cut off.

seventh. pray with me that the bike stays up there on the wall.
i love it.
the former owners haven't decided if they're taking it with them or not.

i think seven things is enough for today. ha!

tell me, what is your favorite look in a kitchen?
cupboards? wall color? accessory color(s)?

happy tuesday.

laundry.

it's what i should be doing. that or packing.
i chose to write.
writing is a stress releaser for me.

i lost all motivation to keep up with my house two weeks after we opened escrow.
has this ever happened to you?

washing the laundry isn't the problem though, folding and putting it away is.

isn't the above laundry room just dreamy?
i want it. it's my inspiration.
the house we've been living in for the last few years is dark.
i can't wait for light and bright. i need bright.
the whole house is being painted a very muted gray.
the bathrooms, kitchen and possibly the laundry room will be white.

here's my soon to be laundry room
Lord Willing

i have big hopes for this space.

i want remove the bottom cupboards and put in a desk, so that i can have my very own craft space.
those cupboards up there are my cupboards. i called shot gun...if you will.
my craft supplies deserve a space all their own.

my sister has been having a love affair with chalk paint. it's all she talks about.
i was telling her that i want to paint these cupboards with.
she, wait for it, suggested i use chalk paint. the space isn't huge so i just might try it.

have you used chalk paint before?
what are your thoughts?

antsy.

i am so excited and anxious to move. i'm antsy. i have so many ideas swirling in my head. if i don't get them out...i just may lose my mind.

we are painting the walls this color.

the boys are each getting new beds and their own rooms. they have been sharing a room for the last 5 years. but alas, patience is a virtue and virtues pay off. for big man i want to do something like this. he's big into music and america AND he can do the best english accent. tiny man wants this. BAD. but we're going to do something more like this.  i taught him how to use pinterest a few weeks back and he's been pinning. you can see his pins here. they first four are mine. his are the next 5-10 after that. my heart just about expolded. he was so into it.

the house we are buying has a formal living and dining area. we are not formal people and i want the boys to have a space to entertain. bigs will be in high school in the fall and i would rather have lots of kids at my house, than have my boys out running the streets. so this are will be a screening room/ game room for them and my husband. a man cave if you will. we have a pool table it has been in storage for the last 5 years and we miss it. it has a special meaning to hubz and i. we met at a pool hall. shameful. i know. ha! you can browse my game room board here.

the kitchen is a little smaller than i wanted. i love to cook and when i cook i think it is necessary to use all of my kitchen gadgets. i mean, what kind of former pampered chef sales rep would i be if i didn't. i do however, have big plans for my kitchen. the cabinets will be going white...eventually. there is an island and i want to do it a bold stand out color. maybe something like this. isn't her kitchen amazing. LOVE IT!

in my soon to be kitchen nook there is a cut out in the wall. in the cut out the current owners put in antique french doors. she's leaving them. i CAN NOT wait to show you guys. i die of cuteness over load. on the adjacent wall they hung an old schwinn. it's yellow. it's perfect. it's still being decided weather or not that's staying. but just between us i hope it does.

because the men in my life are going to have their very own man cave, i get to have free reign on the living room. i see something like this or maybe this in my future. everyone thinks i'm crazy for wanting white slipcovers. but you know what, i know how to operate a washing machine. boom!

whew! my head feels a little less chaotic. thanks for listening or umm reading my rant.

we appreciate them more than you'll ever know.

living room

i've been thinking about changing the decor in my living room.
currently everything is dark and heavy.
if i'm being honest it look like someone came into my house/living room
and doused all the furniture with deep brown paint.
i'm over it.

i need some color.

this is what I'm thinking.

Gray Yellow Navy

navy is my all time favorite color so it's a given
the yellow will add much needed pops of color
and gray because it'll tone the yellow down.
i know that makes no sense

here's some of my inspiration

what's your favorite color combo?
