my son begs every.single.day. for me to stop at sonic so that he can get a slushy.
he says: please mom, i'm so hot, school is so long, and my head hurts and the ONLY thing that's going to make it better is a grape slushy.
if i say no or not today
he says: why are you SO mean.
yes son i pride myself for being SO mean.

i mean, i would love to stop at sonic every single day just to get a cup of ice. can i get an AMEN for sonic ice. i'm an ice chewer much to my husbands dismay. but here's the thing i don't want to teach my boys that its okay to buy something everyday just because we want to without it being a want or a need. even if there are half priced drink between 2 and 4pm. the majesty of a special treat on friday afternoons for a week well done would be gone.

today i turned to google. ehow had a recipe for homemade snow cone syrup. that syrup has a ton of sugar and needs to be boiled. in my time crunch i improvised, and guess what my boys loved them.
what you'll need for the flavoring.
1 kool-aid packet of your choice
1 cup sugar
32 oz water (half what kool-aid calls for)
poor all ingredients into a pitcher and mix well so that all the sugar dissolves
what you'll need for the slushy
a blender
2 cups of ice
3/4 cup flavoring
blend well and voila!
all for about 100 calories. a small sonic slush is from 160-210 calories.

The kool-aid is a good idea for slushies instead of all that sugary syrup. Might have to give that a try!

love that verse! and I too buy ice by the bag. I've craved it so much since i was preggo with Amelia and the cravings haven't stopped. (also much to my husbands dismay:)
