every time i hear a song i twist it and turn it and i make it applicable to my life. you do that to right?!
ok good.
today i was listening to
this song.
watch the video .
i'm serious!
if you are proud to be an american you WILL cry. especially with the olympics coming up. olympic time is my favorite time. all is right in the
world for those few short weeks.
anyway i was listening to it on repeat this morning while i was out running errands and my Grandpa came to mind. i wondered what we would have called him if we knew him. would it have been Grandpa, Abuelo, Papa, Papi??? i'll have to ask him what his preference would have been when i meet him in heaven.
he passed away when my mom was twenty. he was only 54 years old.
when i was a sophomore in high school y mom and i would go to church on sunday evenings. one sunday after church was over and we were walking to the car my friend carlos bombarded me from behind picked me up and twirled me around. i was so embarrassed. i mean hello my mom was right there. and his parents were trailing behind.
he introduced us to his parents and i introduced them to my mom. right at the same second my mom and his dad locked eyes and said simultaneously you look so familiar. i remember rolling my eyes thinking OH MY GOD AGAIN. you see when you come from a hispanic family you are related to everyone. we weren't related. phew! we also never dated. ha! i never dated anyone that was hispanic out of sheer fear that we would find out we were related down the road. Ha. ha! but seriously.
come to find out his dad worked with my grandfather. (carlos' parent were much older than my mom.)
mr. l said to me, "you should always hold your head high even when the going gets tough. because you my dear come from champion blood. your grandfather was the most respected man in our crew. (they laid concrete) he worked hard, prayed hard, and i won't fool you he played hard. but he was always respectful. he was always the one to give a pep talk to anyone that was down, and always fought for what he believed in and most importantly he loved GOD.
when he first said i came from champion blood i thought what the heck dude i'm not a horse but as he continued my mom and i were in tears. what a legacy to leave behind, and for a complete stranger to feel compelled to tell us all that...oh my goodness what a special gift. There goes a fighter. God really is good all the time.
when this memory popped into mind. i called my mom immediately and for the next 10 minutes we cried happy tears in loving memory of my grandpa. it's so amazing to me that i miss someone so much that i never knew. i miss my babies that i never knew too. everyday. but i am so comforted by the thought of all four of my babies are in heaven with so many of my amazing loved ones.
i also have a fun photo shoot involving my boys swirling around in my head inspired by this song. lets hope they will jump on board. hmmm.
i hope you all having a wonderful week!
i'm having tons of fun with wedding shenanigans. t minus 54 hours.
eeeeeekkkkkk!!!!!
xxo
*side note the boy in this video is competing in the olympic trials today. hope and pray that he makes. i read some articles about him and he is really a neat kid.
